It is quite unfair to compare email at navalaviator.net with other web email accounts because you are getting more than just an email account— you are getting an email account that distinguishes you as a Naval Aviator, something for which you have worked hard and should be justifiably proud. What this comparison does show is that you get everything that the others offer at a competitive rate plus an email address that you can put on your business card and be proud of.
1. One Gigabyte (1,000 MB or 1,000,000 KB) total storage for two accounts (500 MB each). This is a lot of storage for an email account, however, NavalAviator.Net cannot compete with multi-billion dollar corporations with access to nearly unlimited storage. If you use an email program such as Outlook Express your email is downloaded to your own computer and does not count against your online storage.
Comparison valid as of 1/1/2007. Check links for current policies.
NavalAviator.Net email provides spam (unwanted junk) email filtering, however the best defense is to not have your email on a spam mailing list to begin with. You can virtually eliminate junk email by following these simple rules:
Get a new
email address. Once the spammers
get your address, especially one that is verified, it will be passed around
and sold to other spammers.
Use at least
two email address, one for friends and family another for online shopping,
bill paying, etc. Any email used on line, especially in discussion groups, can be harvested by spammers. Use a second email address, available through NavalAviator.Net or use a free one, for anything done on line
Make your username unique. Spammers often use common words out of the dictionary attached to common ISPs, such as @aol.com or earthlink.com to fish for valid email address.
Do not respond to any spam, even if you are interested in the product/offer. This only confirms your email address and encourages more spam. Find the website in the email and copy and paste it (do not use the link) into your browser.
DOD Blocked Access: Current USN policy is to explicitly block access to free email providers such has Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail. Additionally access to major ISP email such as earthlink is also blocked. Email from navalaviator.net accounts is currently available via some DOD networks through http://navalaviator.net/webmail.html and by commercial portals such as http://web2mail.com. NavalAviator.Net has no ability to affect DOD internet access policy and there is no gaurnatee that navalaviator.net email will be available over DOD networks.
